Citroen, Toyota and Peugeot Clutch Issues
Over the last few years we’ve had numerous Citroen C1, Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 107 models come into our clutch repair shop with a similar clutch fault. If you are experiencing any troubles with your car, be sure to first contact a local garage to get the issue checked out, if the problem you are suffering from turns out to be a clutch or gearbox problem bring it over to us, the experts in Hertfordshire.
A few years ago we had a customer come to us with trouble selecting 1st and 2nd gear. Initially they contacted the manufacturer, Toyota, who informed them that they needed a brand new gearbox and clutch system. Unwilling to go down that route initially they brought the vehicle to us to look at. We first looked at the clutch system as the car symptoms suggested that the problem was isolated more in the clutch than the gearbox.
When we removed the gearbox and clutch we noticed a serious failure of the pressure plate on the clutch. The rivets on the pressure plate essential for holding the clutch together had failed at two points and resulted in the plate coming apart. This was a more serious failure than it looked, as if the plate had got caught or come away completely, the force of the engine’s momentum could have ejected this plate out of the gearbox and caused some serious damage.
We installed a new clutch pressure plate with larger rivets to stop this issue from happening again in the future.
In the image below you can see the clutch pressure plate on the Toyota Aygo and how it has essentially popped up out of place. In the background of the image you can see how the clutch pressure plate is supposed to look – completely flat.
